Architectural and landscape photographer Jade Doskow is known for her rigorously composed and eerily poetic images that examine the intersection of people, nature, and time. Since 2007 she has been documenting the remains of World’s Fair sites, once iconic global attractions that have often been repurposed, or neglected and have fallen into decay. The large-scale color photographs of Lost Utopias, accompanied by essays from Richard Pare and Jennifer Minner as well as a discussion between Doskow and Vladimir Belogolovsky, poignantly illustrate the utopian architecture and art that has surrounded the world’s fairs across both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Doskow’s work carries a unique sense of both grandeur and dreaminess, while also reflecting upon the temporary purposes that these structures once held.
In celebration of the launch of Lost Utopias, Doskow will be displaying original photographs and signing copies of the book at Pioneer Books, 289 Van Brunt Street.
