Biomorphic Wall is the most recent of Chico MacMurtrie’s / Amorphic Robot Works’ site-specific Inflatable Architectures. This large-scale robotic installation is composed of 32 high tensile fabric tubes, which are controlled by a closed loop pneumatic system and suspended from the ceiling above the audience.
Seemingly dormant, they inhabit the exhibition space with their tranquil weightlessness awaiting activation. As compressed air enters their channels, the fabric tubes inflate and curve upwards while simultaneously expanding sideways. In their transition from soft shape to kinetic architecture, they interconnect and grow into a dynamic grid, reminiscent of molecular formations. The organic movements and gestures of the tubes suggest the coming alive of matter, evoking the internal forces of our bodies in motion.
BioMorphic Wall is translating MacMurtrie’s ongoing research to develop a body of work exploring the forms, movements, and interactions that define our human experience. As a magnification of the cellular world, BioMorphic Wall together with his previous installation, including Organic Archesand Chrysalis, give us a direct, visceral experience of the kinds of minute geometric constructions that underlie all of life.

#TRASHDAY LIVESTREAM 4PM
Tune in for satire and social commentary by visual artists Kenya (Robinson) and Doreen Garner, as they talk shit about trash, share music and clips, and create a holistic sonic artwork by elevating the vernacular of urban fiction, reality television, gossip publications, social dance, and fashion. This special Mother’s Day edition features the first #hoodMagic gift basket giveaway, music from Shanaz Dorsett, from her EP, Mother Tongue, and, of course, the hosts, k (Rob) + Doe Derek, waxing poetic on the ratchetry of the innawebs.
CITIES ARE NATURAL 5PM
Clocktower’s artist-in-residence Melissa F. Clarke presents a collaborative, transformative performance, with Leila Bordeuil and Byron Westbrook, where sounds created by glass, paper, metal, and cello integrate with one another as well as with the building’s infrastructure.
TRANSMISSIONS 9PM
A revelatory performance piece by artist Pat Noecker exploring the potential of technology, the power of sound, and the joy of collective expression, through a collaboration between the audience and ten musicians (Pat Spadine, Michael Durek, Tracy Brooks, Victoria Keddie, Dana Schechter, Jg Thirlwell, Laura Ortman, Ted McGrath, Aaron Moore, and Michael Garofalo) installed around the building.
FERRUM 5:30 + 7:30pm
Ferrum, Latin for Iron, is a large scale site-specific performance drawing on the iron factory historical components of the Pioneer Works coupled with thematic content of public and private space. The performance will take place in the main space of the building, a 120ft room within the architecture exploring a genre of contemporary performance in historical sites.
ARPANAJEWELS
Arpana Rayamajhi is painter/ sculptor/ jeweler based in NYC. Currently a student of Cooper Union Arpana is also the founder of ARPANAJEWELS. Each piece is one of a kind, handmade in NYC. Materials are sourced from around the world, mainly from her hometown, Kathmandu and NYC, including travels.
ARPANAJEWELS is setting up a booth for the very first time at Pioneer Works for Second Sunday to not only showcase the pieces but also to raise fund for Nepal Earthquake 2015. 20% of the proceeds goes to those directly affected by the earthquake.

TransporterVR uses Google Street View and Cardboard to place the viewer in a virtual environment of their choice. Be Transported to your childhood home, Beale St in Memphis, or Alligator Alley in Ochopee Florida through the magic of Virtual Reality.

XENIA RUBINOS 6:30PM
Music maker Xenia Rubinos uses her powerful voice to create beats and melodies from scratch. Xenia’s sound grows from a wide range of influences from Caribbean rhythms and beat music to minimalism and indie rock all delivered with a soulful punk aura. Her debut record, Magic Trix, is an ecstatic collection of songs featuring layered beats, crunchy keyboards, and driving syncopated rhythms. Audiences and critics alike have lauded her rafter-shaking live show, describing the songstress as “redefining exuberance�?. She has toured extensively in Europe and North America.
PITCHBLAK BRASS BAND PitchBlak Brass Band is a Brooklyn-based 10-piece band that takes its cues from thirty years of Hip Hop history. A vibrant collective of young musicians, composers and artists, the group embodies many of the contemporary undercurrents of New York City. PitchBlak’s members have incredibly diverse musical backgrounds, allowing them to infuse hip-hop with funk, rock, jazz and classical influences, resulting in a style that matches their dreads, shades and dashikis—rich brass harmonies, lyrical hooks, tongue-twisting raps, and rhythms that make your blood race.
SECOND SUNDAYS is a monthly series of open studios, live music, and site-specific interventions presented by Pioneer Works the second Sunday of every month. The series showcases artists in residence along with musical performances and DJs, curated by Olivier Conan.
