MARTHA REDBONE blends Appalachian elements with soul and funk and her deep Native American roots. She started out her career as a junior Funkadelic, indie soul pioneer and a woman noted for exploring the wilder side of rhythm & blues. Her latest project, however, re-invents the poetry of William Blake with an all Americana backdrop and vintage Nashville production values.
Featuring: Martha Redbone/vocals;percussion; Aaron Whitby/keys; Teddy Kumpel/guitar/banjo; Charlie Burnham/violin/harmonica and Fred Cash/bass.
Martha Rebone has ” created a new body of folk song by a lyricist who compares favorably to, well, Bob Dylan….A major find…” Robert Christgau

HAZMAT MODINE plays the kind of Blues one might have found in a whorehouse in New Orleans had the city been built on the Black Sea. The eight piece band includes a panoply of harmonicas, accordions, tuba, drums, guitars, and a horn section. Occasional guests play such exotic instruments as the Chinese mouth-organ, the bass sax and the normaphone. Hazmat has found an increasingly receptive audience in Europe where they have been nominated for a BBC award and tour a good part of the year. They backed Natalie Merchant on a few songs on her latest album and their last two albums featured collaborations with Tuva’s Huun Huur Tu, Benin’s extraordinary Gangbe Brass Band, the Kronos Quartet and Natalie Merchant.
