Supper Club with Silvia Barban (LaRina Pastificio & Vino)
Pioneer Works Supper Club is a dinner series created to celebrate local chefs as culinary artists, and serve as a community gathering around a unique dining experience.
This edition of Supper Club features Silvia Barban, chef and co-owner of LaRina Pastificio e Vino in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Dishes showcase fresh local produce, and a creative take on traditional and modern Italian cuisine - inspired by Silvia’s childhood in Northern Italy, and summers spent in Southern Italy with family and friends.
Please note: This dinner will be partially outdoors, with communal tables indoors, and will follow all current COVID safety guidelines. ID and proof of vaccination are required to enter.
Silvia Barban grew up cooking with her grandmother, and admired her ability to bring people together with food. She inspired Silvia to cook and make people happy - which she does by using fresh local produce to create traditional and modern Italian dishes.
Silvia graduated from "E.Maggia" Stresa culinary school, and found her way in the kitchen of the Maestro of Italian cuisine, Gualtiero Marchesi. Sivlia worked as a pastry chef, learning to cook modern and traditional dessert for Giancarlo Perbellini, and advanced to Chef de Partie. In 2012, she moved to New York for the opening of Giovanni Rana Pastificio e Cucina. Originally planned to be part of a three month consulting team, she stayed on as sous chef, relishing the opportunity to work in Manhattan. Two years later, Silvia became Executive Chef at Aita in Brooklyn. In 2016, she competed in Season 14 of Bravo's Top Chef, while simultaneously opening a new restaurant, now LaRina Pastificio e Vino, along with her partners.
"I love making pasta. Not only is it fun to do, but I love the roots it has with my family. I’m fascinated with the different shapes and flavors I can create."
