Brett Swenson
Visual Arts Residency
Brett Swenson is a Brooklyn based multimedia artist. His work explores intersections of the “natural” world with human constructs, seeking a balance between action and re- action, intention and occurrence, and creating situations that are both organic and highly calculated. His experimental approach leads through unforeseen corridors of material anomalies and strange phenomena before a “moment of transmutation” is identified. By developing a sensitivity to material cues, he attempts to reconstruct the abstract moment where prior experience and newly received input converge. Combining facts with storytelling, the mutability of the truth normally attributed to empirical knowledge is made transparent. In turn, these trajectories are inherently autobiographical and function as windows into a rather personal relationship with his own inner and outer environment.
