Technology Residency
Robert Smith is a technologist and Red Hook resident who is interested in exploring the relationship of tech to community. One of his most recent and biggest ongoing projects is Red Hook Wifi. Red Hook Wifi is a free public community wireless network, created to provide a free communication platform for the residents of Red Hook. Over the course of his residency. Robert will explore the possibilities of technology such as Ras Pi, to develop tools for disaster preparation and environmental awareness. His research will be geared towards designing weatherproof electronic systems, to be used within the neighborhood and at Pioneer works 2016 hardware hackathon “Intervention”. This project will be an experiment in hopes of developing better communications systems to deliver real time data before a disaster hits.
